I've Got Somewhere Inside Myself

I've got somewhere inside myself

that hasn't yet been used up.
There's pain so deep
it's up to my thighs and stillness
so loud it's still again.

There's where I'll know what I'm made of,
but that place isn't here
 - not next to you, doctor,
who speaks of walking like croquet.

Please know these chilled needles
are nothing and my sizzling veins
don't scare me -
not when there's that spot I believe in

and this guy with his juice
whose chemo's now run dry
I think he knows about it too
and we're not going there quietly.
